Couple of things. First, you prolly should have asked the question before dropping the coin. Second, and this is not going to make your day, when I last purchased a flat screen TV, I asked the sales guy if the curved TV's delivered better viewing quality in any way................the answer was a resounding no. I've read the same thing in other reviews.
baffles me that TV's use to be curved inwards when they were tube TVs and then flat screen was the big craze and now back to curved TV's but they curve inward now.
It's still cheaper than season tickets to all the NFL games!

I bought a curved TV last year................Samsung.
I did so because I have a unique living room set-up and I thought the curve would help others see the screen better.............so it works for my situation.
Otherwise, I think it adds little to the viewing experience.
I say this because the same TV from the same maker in a flat screen looks very good as well..............for $200 less.
Don't get me wrong..............my curved TV displays an excellent picture.
But, I believe the curved shower rod has made a bigger impact on society than the curved TV.

I wouldn't know cause I only by a tv every 20 years or so lol. Last one was 46 inch plasma in 2005.
Spaz, From convex to flat to concave. They have now run out of ways to go.
Marc, I went to get some printer ink last night at K Mart. They have a decent batch of TV's. They did have a 55" curved 1 that I watched for a while (not the 1 I'm getting, just the same size). It didn't improve the viewing quality by much, but by having a chance to look at a curved TV and a flat screen almost side by side, the main difference that I could see was that I could get further to the side of the curved TV and still see the picture better than when I went to the side of the flat screen. There is a clarity in the curved screen that is better than the flat screen, not by much, but you can see it.

These are the basic spec's for the 1 I bought.
I have to ask. When you last bought a flat screen, were the curved screen TV's just coming out. I ask because when I bought the 46" flat screen I have in my living room, there was no mention of curved screen TV's. That was in July of 2012 when I was getting ready to move to NC.
As we both know, price is a big difference in what you get. The TV I looked at last night sells for $799 with a regular price of $999. The 1 I'm buying has $900 knocked off for the "Black Friday" sales and I'm still paying a little over $1500 for it. Consumers gives it 5 stars and a great review (obviously). If it turns out to not be what I expect, I have 45 days to send it back (and I would) and I'll buy a 55" flat screen. I had to stop at 55" because it's the biggest that will fit in my wall unit.
It will be here in a few days, so I will find out how good they are.
I guess I never understood the appeal of curved screen TVs. They look awesome and all, but, why?
The sad thing is, I have five high def TV's in the house(including two smart TV's that are ROKU powered, and I don't even watch them). We even have a movie room with a 75" 4K 3D TV with dolby 7.1 surround sound. I occasionally watch a movie with the Mrs. and kids.
Maybe it's because I work with technology every day 10-12 hours. I guess when I get home, I want nothing to do with electronics and prefer to pick up a book. LOL!
I hope you new tube is awesome. Let us know how it works out. Enjoy your new TV Rick!
I'm waiting for TV's that'll make me sandwiches next...
for 12 of the last 14 years, a computer screen has been my tv...here's a better idea, buy a projector!
My guess is your friend leaves the projector on when not watching...cause a buddy has a counter on his and he averaged about 1hr per day...the average lifespan of a projector bulb is 2,000 hours, so that's roughly two years at 3 hours a day (which is less than the average american watches, but seriously, you don't need all that tv!!). I've just read the average American watches 282min of TV per day! Seriously?!?!?! Work and sleep are roughly 17hours, so basically in two hours, Americans eat, get ready for work, do whatever else needs to be done. Yikes!
Anyway, most people replace their tv every 2-3 years i understand, the great thing about projectors is they don't take up a lot of space and if your walls a white, when it's not on its not there!
First of all congratulations on buying a new TV – it's always a good thing.
As far as the curve, I would imagine (from optical theory) that the curve would cut down on room reflections and ambient light issues. Perhaps this is the "clarity" of which you speak.
Enjoy! But I know you will.
google curved vs. flat tv's
I've read some pros and cons. It's still opinion.
The curved look cool. The bigger the better to get immersed into the curvature.
Buying TVs is like buying drums (or anything else for that matter). Buy what you want.
One thing to bear in mind when buying a new TV is can you take advantage of what it offers?
I bought a mid size flat screen about 4 years ago, nothing fancy,t pretty cheap (£250 ish) and probably 2 years or so behind the latest technology available at the time. I have thought about upgrading to a 4k version but I don't think much TV in the UK is yet broadcast in that format - many of the channels on my cable package are 720P!
I'll probably upgrade eventually, but brit TV broadcasts seem to be about 5 years behind the capabilities of the latest TVs on sale so I find it hard to feel motivated to drop a huge wad of cash on new TV technology. Perhaps TV stations in the US broadcast their programming in the latest format - that's not the case in the UK, but we are always a few years behind you chaps in the US.
I'm waiting for the brain implant where you just think about it and you see it in front of you. We'll get there.
The clarity was very good (so was the flat screen just not quite as good).
Keep in mind that I saw it in a store with a ton of overhead lighting.
2 glasses of scotch get's me there. On those rare occasions when I make it to the 3rd glass, Jennifer Lawrence lives with me.
