    Hola chicos y chicas!

So a guy is selling this snare for about 550 US, based on the pictures it's has a bit divot corrosion around the whole drum, and he wrote that the latch could use some TLC.

Keeping in mind this is about 200US more than I was considering spending, would you pull the trigger on it? I mean, I can always wait 6-12 months and pick something up when im back in the states, or is this a pretty good deal?

PM if you want the link (it's in Czech, but it's just about the pics anyway)

    Gracias amigos!

I've seen supraphonics and black beauties pop up on kijiji from time to time. For a 1973 super sensitive I would think that's a pretty sweet deal. There's a guy selling a 1980 black beauty for $2500 right now and another guy for $1000. So for one from 73, I wouldn't hesitate to pick that up.

    jgziegler,

The Ludwig 402/411 is a great snare.

As a life-long Ludwig player I feel like it's a good deal if (1) you really love the sound of the drum and want to buy it so that you can play it forever or (2) you can get your money back (or more) if you decide to turn around and sell it.

Some degree of pitting is somewhat normal for a Ludalloy drum of that vintage but it sounds like the one that you are interested in might have above average wear, tear, and/or neglect. Do you have any pictures of the drum that you can share? The reason that I ask is that I have a '73 400 Supraphonic 5 x 14 snare in excellent condition with virtually no pitting at all but I take care of the drum and I've gigged the heck out if.

Also, the Ludwig Super Sensitive series snares are fabulous sounding snares but they aren't for everyone. The Supraphonic series snares are way more popular and hence easier to sell should you decide to do so.

Years ago, I gave the '77 Ludwig 411 that I acquired new to a good friend for his birthday present. It was a sweet sounding snare for sure ...

+1. You're not going to find a 70s 402 for that price again.

    UPDATE:

I mentioned this to my mentor, he said he'd sell me his 1965 one for a similar price (i'm already playing on his kit as a long term borrow). So any other input?

Not a bad option and you already know the drum ...
