Um, yeah, do you travel?
That looks awesome.
With several new vintage shell projects in the works, I decided I needed a place to work efficiently. I started on Thanksgiving weekend and just finished it up yesterday. It's 8'OAL x 24"D x 38"H. I've been hoarding scrap lumber from previous projects for years, 95% of which I used. The top is made from 3/4" CDX plywood covered in scrap office carpet with hard foam rubber backing. I can flip the carpet over for a rubber work surface if needed. The Birch drawers & doors are from an old kitchen cabinet that I tore out of our utility room last year. I added a 4" vise and hung a 48" LED work light overhead (both which I already had). I have about $100 in it so far...mostly for the drawer slides, pegboard, hooks and misc. hardware. I can't wait to start working on my old Ludwig shells on a cold, snowy weekend.

The recessed carpet top worked out extremely well. I can work on drum shells and guitars and not worry about messing up the bearing edges or scratching the finish. I can pull the carpet completely out to expose the plywood top if I'm working on something dirty or greasy. Plus....it's long enough I can sleep on it when the wife kicks me out for spending too much money on G.A.S.

Very nice Brian. I can't wait to see your posts of projects that come from here.
great work!
Wow, that's slick! Nice work sir!
I hope you don't ever have to sleep on it. Maybe you need to store away memory foam and some bedding?
Very nice.
That's pretty awesome. I need to fix my work area up at home. Thanks for the inspiration!
Very nicely done Brian!!! I knew by reading your informative post on DrumChat, I suspected you'd have something like this up your sleeve. So here's a stark contrast between most of you DIY'ers and me. There are so many skilled craftsperson's here. Sorry for the thread jack.
My workbench doubles as a storage bin for PA cables. Betcha didn't think of that one eh?
My custom made drum wrap rolling stand. I sometimes use it and put actual weights on it...to exercise.
Goodwill "special layout table" for drum wrapping. Brown paper not included and I can flip the table over and it's actually.....useless.
And finally, the finishing station. Here, every detail is closely examined to see if anything came up "short". Oh darn...is that a seam I see at the top of the shell? Whaaat?
I like the drawers and cabinet space you have on there.
That's classic. Before I built this bench, I did all my drum projects on a 4' folding table (like yours) and a folding card table. Both of which I scrounged from the curbside on "city cleanup day". I'd gladly trade my bench for a nice 2 car attached garage like yours!
Thanks! Original plan was for a simple bench made from scrap 2x4s and plywood. Like every project I do, it starts simple and I end up complicating it, LOL. The drawers & doors were from an old utility sink cabinet in my basement laundry room. The sink was leaking and we didn't catch it. It ended up being rotten & moldy all over the bottom inside. I tore it out but saved the drawers, doors and as much of the Birch panels as I could. My intent was to make Cajons and cigar box guitars out of it. This, however, seemed like a better use.
