My brother's show Vette. '74 with about 33,000 miles on it.

That's about a 1/4 of the trophies he's won with it. There is more custom work done to it that most people don't see.

I used to be in the Vette-owner club.
These cars are in the third generation of the "coke bottle" C-3 Vettes.........1973 through 1977.

Those 1974 Corvettes had a couple of unique features:

    The first Corvette to have the body-colored bumper treatment on both ends;

The last year of the 454 big block.

You'll notice that my brothers Vette doesn't have those front and rear bumpers which were discolored in the 1st year or 2. He ordered bumpers and the flares over the wheel wells from Ecklers.

The car was put on a flatbed and taken to Pennsy to where a friend of ours had his shop. Everything was molded in, there are no seams. The back "bumper" is like the rearend of the '68-'72 Vettes.

The paint is (obviously) Candy Apple Red with a bronze basecoat.

When the gas crunch and insurance increases hit and all cars dropped their HP, the Vette's became slow boats. It's amazing to me to think that any stock Vette ( even the 454's) would lose in the 1/4 to my 4 cyl by a second and 1/2, if not more. The people that wanted a Vette that was fast, went to Baldwin-Motion on Sunrise Highway in NY and spent 9-10k on a Vette that would run 11's.

Now they are back where they belong, 11's at 120+ in the 1/4.

By the way, the tires on my brothers Vette are G-60's in the front, and N-50's in the back.

That Vette is absolutely gorgeous! It's not hard to see why your brother was collecting trophies with that car.

All Corvettes before 1973 had chrome bumpers..............front and rear.

The 1973 model was the "transition year" wherein the car had the usual chrome rear bumpers, but the front introduced the first "soft body-colored nose".
The 1974 model (and thereafter) had the body-colored treatment at both ends and the chrome bumpers were gone forever.............the shape of the rear also changed a bit and it was no longer so "abrupt".

In this transition context, the '73 car is thus considered a unique look.

My uncle had a '63 Vette roadster. I barely remember it....only saw it a couple times. He sold it in the early '80s.

Once I bought my Vette, my brother positively, absolutely, had to have 1.

His wife lets him do whatever he wants to do with it, but the deal includes him not buying another motorcycle as he was almost killed on 1 when a guy blew a red light and plowed into him while he was going through the intersection.

When Rosanne and I got to the hospital, he was out cold. The doctor said that had he not gone up on the hood of the car, he most certainly would have been killed.

His wife told him that if he ever comes home with a motorcycle, she would set his Vette on fire, and yes, she really would do it.

As for the Vette, he has turned down $45,000 for it from a guy at Englishtown who wanted it for his girlfriend.
