I miss the playing, but nothing before or after.
Just got home from the gig . What did I miss ?
Gig free weekend for me but have been carpeting and rearranging basement/drum room all weekend. Of course I keep sitting at kit for a quick beat/fill and lo and behold and hour goes by, wife not happy : )

Decide whether this is love for the craft or simply an ego thing
http://www.redskymary.com/ NOT MY BAND, JUST A GREAT LOCAL BAND WHO SHOULD BE SOOO MUCH BIGGER IMO
It would be interesting to get a feel for how many folks on this forum play out. My guess is that it's a relatively small number.
Either it's a gig or watching someone else gig or they're putting time in with the wife/significant other , family (kids and such) .
Sometimes my gigs are so boring that on the breaks I check in here just to see what's going on .
I've had people meet me at the gigs to buy or sell stuff I've seen or listed on Craigslist ! LOL !
I got a call Friday morning from another band that we're friends with. They were scheduled to play that night at a bar (75 miles away) and their lead singer/guitar was sick. They asked if we could play in their stead. All my guys said they were willing...except my brother who plays Bass. He was "on call" for his work. So....I asked if their Bass player was willing to sub for us. He agreed. End result; we played the gig on half a day's notice with a new Bass player who had never played with us before, LOL. Many of the songs he had never heard before. I told him he only needed to play a country 2-beat to cowboy chords and a Blues shuffle or walk to 12-bar Blues....more or less. I told him we'd adjust our rhythm guitar and drum patterns to what he plays, I'll cue him on the breaks and bridges and he can watch the guitar players neck for the chord changes. The classic rock stuff would be self explanatory. We had some minor tempo issues at first, but no one noticed. He wasn't used to playing faster tempo walks and shuffles, but he simplified his patterns when he got fatigued. I had to skip some fills here and there to avoid issues and just tried to keep the groove going. All-in-all, he did a fantastic job. The place was packed all night and the crowd was wired. One younger girl started dancing on the tables, but soon found out it was a bad idea, LOL. The bar owner was extremely happy we could help out and cover for the other band. Without a band, it would have been a slow night. As it turned out, she had a very profitable night with a lot of new customers. In addition, we now have a backup Bass player should the need arise!

"Too many crappy used drum stuff to list"
Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!
"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham
I play every week at my church, and from time to time in a local studio and with a local band when their main drummer can't make it. It all equals out and I make enough money to buy extra things for my kit and maintenance items as well.
Six Piece Mapex Saturn V, Five Piece DW Performance Series, NOS Slingerland Snares, Centent Ardor and Emperor Cymbals
I played the best gig of my life to date Friday night. This was my second gig with a Yes tribute band called Shine Delirious. Went worlds better than the first gig. Heard an audio recording yesterday. I held the tempos better, provided a wider dynamic range than previously, and didn't miss any turnarounds or endings! (I also heard a bunch of little things that didn't quite work or were too repetitive for my taste. I am my own worst critic.)
We were opening for a Rush tribute band (Fred Barchetta), so we invited their guitarist and bassist up to do Xanadu with me and our singer and keyboard player. No rehearsal! Actually went really well and came off pretty much accurate to the recording with one or two tentative moments. Lol
Incredible high after a night like that. Reaffirms my decision to join this band and attempt this ridiculous caliber of music. I've seen another side of my own playing as yet untapped.
I love being a drummer!
Proudly playing:
Doc Sweeney Drums
A bunch of snares
A bunch of cymbals
Off-Set double pedals
I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
"wife not happy"
Are they ever, MDK.
My 2nd wife (commonly referred to as Sybil) had 3 things that she enjoyed doing:
1) Going shopping with "the girls".
2) Talking on the phone with "the girls".
3) Being pi$$ed at me.
We were together for 4 years, married for 3. That 1st year, she was the perfect GF. We married and she became Jack Nicholson in "The Shining".
She gave a whole new meaning to the word "psychopath".
Im 38 years old and have been gigging in Casinos' festivals, Halls, bars and private events for about 20 years now. Not for a living, a hobby but I get paid well.
