Default Ugly Cymbal stand add-0ns... What I did.

I have been using an Aquarian Cymbal Spring on my china for a couple years now and I recently got Gibraltar Swing Nuts for my ride and crash cymbals. I love the cymbal spring for the added movement and the reduction of stress on the china , and I love the Swing Nuts for their speed/ease of setup and breakdown. What I don't like about either of them is the fact that they look UGLY (in my opinion) on cymbal stands coming out of my vertical rack pipes.

If a straight stand coming directly out of a vertical rack pipe is sitting all the way down inside the pipe, then you have like 3 to 5 inches between the top of the rack pipe clamp (Gibraltar # SC-RBA) and the cymbal. With an add-on like a Cymbal Spring or a Swing Nut (which are designed to mount on TOP of a cymbal stand) you end up with like 6 to 10 inches between there, which to me looks REALLY stupid.

I figured out that I could mount the base of the Cymbal Spring directly inside the SC-RBA, eliminating the cymbal boom altogether (which works great), but the Swing Nuts were a different story.

I ended up taking rack clamp wing nuts...

    cutting off the wings...

    grinding them smooth...

screwing in a bolt of the correct thread (as it is the same thread as a cymbal stand and therefor the Swing Nut), all the way and then cutting off the bolt head...

and then screwing on the Swing Nut...

Now the Swing nut can mount flush to the top of the SC-RBA on top of my vertical pipes...

    Very creative!

I appreciate clean looks for sure, as most of us know.
When a stand or tube is to long I won't hesitate to cut it down to a nice clean length.

    Nice work
