I also love the old video from Sonor on how its made on how they cast bell bronze snares
I saw that Sonor video on "How It's Made". The casting of the bell bronze snare that is.

Notice they don't show how the bead is done? Trade secret? I know the bead is to add strength and not a sonic property. Rolled and welded shells are slightly thicker than spun for this same reason. I own two spun shell Ludwig snares and one rolled and welded DW. I can't say that the technique is a huge difference. All three drums sound great albeit different. One is bronze, one is brass and one aluminum, so they're sounds are different. I can say that the rolled brass DW is my fave, but that's really a personal preference.
