I'll probably get flamed for this but....
Inna Gadda Da Vida
Just sayin'
I'm not a soloist. The guys in the band don't even like me dragging out the end of a song. That's always been a fun part to me. I just tell em I'm making my statement with a roll around the toms or whatever and it's never too long. I love hearing a good ending.
Always like that Blinded Me With Science song Jedi

IGDV is probably the most famous rock drum solo of all time.
In it's context ,it's quite melodic and very well structured.
It's main issue is that it was overplayed and is now a cliche.
Makes it a bit like the guitar intro to Stairway to Heaven.
Too much airplay.

I've done my share of solos.............enjoy playing them................but I can only listen to someone playing one for a short time..................after awhile, they are just boring IMO
Agree...more fun to play than to listen too. That goes for Buddy Rich as well. Probably the greatest soloist ever but after about the 4 minute mark it's like OK enough already! IMHO drums are good for demonstrating ones physical prowess but just seem to lack the ability to tell a story the way a melodic instrument can.
all the best...
try not to laugh.... sorry Bill but.....
