A pillow.
I was thinking the other day that I really am particular when it comes to the feel of the practice pad I use. Are you guys as well?
A pillow.
Hard
I prefer hard to soft, but I have practiced on a pillow in the past. Years ago, I had a Remo drum pad, but I just never quite liked the feel - too soft - so I went with a Vater practice pad. I believe that the Vater pad was considered soft, but to me the feel is harder than what I had used in the past.

I've never used a practice pad. Probably why I'm not very good! haha. I have one of those old school grey plastic with the white "head"...I think they are old Remos. But I almost never use it.

I voted for the hard pad. I don't want too much bounce. Back in the day, I used a thick phonebook but I don't think the phone company prints those anymore.
LOL,
A swing and a miss.........

Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

I just use my mouse pad. Feels better than some cheap practice pads I've used in the past.

Back in high school when I marched I used a pillow. Now I prefer hard.
I thought that was a snare drum cover

I used many different types growing up but finally settled in on the 'Real Feel' practice pad. It just seemed to have the right balance between hard and soft.
