I have several acrylic snare drums.. I will have to look at them closer tonight for any spider cracking.
Hey, Zack I made some acrylic octobans( set of 4 ) a few years back now and made them to Tama specs. When I drilled and mounted the mounts and lugs I made rubber gaskets and washers for all the hardware. There are rubber gaskets (made from sheets of 1/16" thick rubber) on the mounts and lugs and rubber washers on the inside mounting screws with the standard washers. Made sure there was rubber contact on each side.I don't know if that really makes any difference or not but all looks good now.

That's actually super smart and a great idea. It would help with any vibration caused cracks and help with some of the tensions. Being acrylic you won't want to crank down any hardware screws. . .

Acrylic looks better than is sounds and also its just not appropriate most of the time . and if you get a a "dry " kit what is the point?

makes sense for a band like kiss or mike portney but for anything musical its just a fail

I figure with todays miking and EQing and sophisticated electronics etc...you can literally make cardboard boxes sound like drums (Same way they can make tone deaf singers sound like angels! LOL)

So, for a drummer in an image dependant band, he can can have sound and looks too.

I saw see through drums for the first time back in about 1971 or so. There was a WOW factor then, but not so much now.

    all the best...

1 of the toms in my set is acrylic. I doubt if anyone can tell which 1 it is. I tune it the same way I tune all my other drums, I don't concern myself with the fact that it's acrylic.

On the video I put up with 8 toms, there are 4 different kinds of wood in there. I tune them all the same way.

Put Aquarian, Evans, Remo, whatever heads you feel give you the sound you want. You want dry, have a martini. You want wet, I'll take a wet tee shirt contest. The 1 thing I've noticed no matter what band I'm listening to, is, for some reason, I have never mistaken them for a oboe. They always sound like drums.

When I first saw them I said to myself those are different but was never wowed by them as I did not see the reason behind the concept. Other than looks.

The first I saw them was April Wine (remember them?) at the hometown hockey arena. I guess it was the lights and everything. Not hard to dazzle a 14 year old in those days I guess. LOL

Yeah, I saw them at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium many moons ago. I think they were opening up for STYX, as I remember.

Nice kit, I was eyeing a Pearl Crystal beat jelly bean kit. A jelly bean would still look great in the daylight but not sure how it would show with lights at night? Not a fan of the toms hanging from stands either but that's a personal issue I am working on : ) I really love the look of the DW acrylic with the mini lugs.

    Sabian HHX Legacy

Decide whether this is love for the craft or simply an ego thing

http://www.redskymary.com/ NOT MY BAND, JUST A GREAT LOCAL BAND WHO SHOULD BE SOOO MUCH BIGGER IMO

A common sentiment. On disadvantage of playing this kit is that I'll have to start wearing pants.
