Some portable drills actually have a drill chuck adapter the same size as a drum key.
No adapter needed.
I believe a Black and Decker portable works just fine.

I use one on a small cordless drill for removal only. I use a standard drum key to thread the lugs back on due to the fear of cross threading the tuning rod.

I agree with Rich on this one. I have a small cordless drill for taking lugs off but drum key for tuning them back on.
