Has music in the local bars/clubs come back around in your area? Over here there seems to be some things going on but overall it still seems kinda dead. Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention. It doesn't help much either for the band to be on yet another bass player search.

Are any people left that do music as their main source of income?. I don't see how that can be these days, maybe the casino circuit?. I know a couple guys locally that were doing it but haven't heard from them in a long time.

I also can't remember the last time I've been in a music store like GC. Drove by one the other day but didn't stop.

After I got out of the service and started gigging (1970), there were maybe 15 bars/clubs in the area that had bands every week. When we stopped gigging in 2005, there were maybe 5-6.

It was easier in the '70's to "get started" because there were a lot of bars/clubs booking every week. Now maybe 30-40% of the clubs we played are now closed, some for close to 20 years.

A lot of bars/clubs here in Richmond, VA are having bands again. The problem is, there are hundreds of bands competing with one another so it's not as easy to get work. You have to join a wedding band to make any real money.

Bars and clubs were always fun but the money is made at weddings and banquets.Go around and get known in the local reception venues.

My current band is made up of myself and the guitarist and singer from days gone by when we played weddings and divorce parties. We wore fancy vests and bow ties. The worst part was when you were wading through the crowd and someone would shout "waiter, can I get a refill?" I'm like huh, I'm in the band but what was funny is we were dressed very similar to the help. Lot's a people never got their expected orders.

yeah lots of bands playing again.. now the toughest is getting the crowd because they all seem to have troubles deciding where to go as we all play on the same nights lol
