I think Tommy Lee from back in the Crue days, and Don Henley from the Eagles.

That's a tough one. Many of the famous drummers have great sounding drums not always because they tune well but because they have a few things:
- Top of the line drums.
- Drum techs that usually know how to tune drums well.
- Soundmen that can take even a crappy drum and make it sound good.
i always thoght elvises drummer drums sounded good. he would play big fills around it and it was always sounded good and what elvis liked for sure
max
Bonham. He's the Santana of drumming. He's got a real signature tone. No matter what he's playing, you can always tell it's him. I don't know of anyone else I can say that about.
i like the sound of any drum set as long as it comes up loud enuph on the recording
anyone with a dw kit and evans heads
I think, my personal opinion, Jeffrey Porcaro had an amazing sound! Possibly the best I ever seen and heard. Simon Phillips, is also in my top 3.

I dont know about real "famous" but I'm diggin' on Lester Estelle Jr's (Pillar) sound. Tight and powerful. Plays a minimalist 1up, 1down with a 10" rack tom!
-Les could be the Risen maple kit ??
I always liked Phil Colins sound & Ginger Baker
Not that I'm a big fan, but Lars still has my all-time favorite kick drum slap.
Whatshisname from the Doors has the best ride cymbal (think: Riders on the Storm).

Sound men, techies and drums aside,,,John Bonham had the best sounding kit I think I've ever listened to and I don't mean that to take anything away from all of the great ones. He just had a sound that was signature.
There's a lot to be said for Time Honored tradition and value.

Its a tossup for me between Elvin Jones and Steve Jordan
i vote for Joey Jordison, even though this set is massively triggered.
i love his snare sounds on all of the albums, (especially Iowa)
also, the triggering for his basses is unique as well as his toms. They don't sound low and agressive like most metal drummers nowadays do.
him or....
Chris adler.
the colorfullnes of his cymbals and not to mention his snare which has one of the most unique tones i've ever heard.

It's hard for a drummer to have their own "sound, but a few come to mind.
Lars' kick on the "...And Justice For All" album is the best sounding kick to me. Bold and punchy.
Neal Peart's rack toms, particularly the 10", OMG!
Alex Van Halen's Snare drum. It had that pop to it. One strike, and you knew it was him.
Bonham's kit overall. Nothing short of amazing, considering there were no triggers and recording techniques were so primative then compared to what the guys use today.
