I'm the OP on this thread and last spring SpazApproved recommended that I buy a Tama S.L.P G-Maple snare. I bought it and continue to love it.

My wife just asked what I want for Christmas, and for some reason I think I need a 4th snare. I was hoping for another great recommendation. I was thinking of maybe a DW Collectors. Either black nickel over brass or maybe a maple. My budget is about $500.

    Thanks Again,
    Sam

    I just bought a DW Collectors 6.5 x 14 Exotic Paldao. It's a maple shell with a cool veneer.

I bought this without playing first, so I'm a little concerned about that, but I have high expectations.

I'm very disappointed in the DW Collectors 6.5 x 14 Maple Paldao. I've made many attempts to tune and am now thinking this is not ever going to have the sound I'm looking for. Too warm sounding for my taste.

All new snares are going to be 7 x13 for now.
