Sucherman is an incredible player but he is just playing things that Panozzo wrote and structured.

That is true but he adds a lot to the songs and takes the drum parts to a new level. I watched an entire Styx show on AXIS Tv and was blown away by Todd's playing.

We went to see Styx last year? with Def Leppard n Tesla ... Todd was excellent! had a big Yamaha set...

could swear I saw Yamaha on his kicks but might've been Pearl

Sorry to edit again but writing bad info bothers me... Todd was most likely playing Pearl at that show Rick Allen had the Yamaha set.

NPYYZ is spot-on here; TS was another student in the superb line of drummers from Berklee (Boston) that includes Mangini and Portnoy.
JY and Tommy Shaw have built the band to a whole new level....................best STYX line-up ever.
Ricky Phillips on the bass/vox and Lawrence Gowan is a classically trained keyboardist/vocalist.

Yep -- TS is a Pearl endorser and plays the Masters series shells.......................and plays them very well.

I liked that a lot, but I would swear that that snare is 15".

The guy is solid yet very musical......................good with any genre.
He makes STYX a better live band -- no doubt.

Shaw and Young got rid of the DeYoung guy as they had a disagreement over his wanting to go more "theatrical".
Replaced the aging bassist with Ricky Phillips (Babys) and brought in the classically trained keyboardist, Gowan (and they both add great vocals).
Now this band is better than ever and they put on a live stage show that is great to watch and expertly presented.

I've seen them twice in the last three years and it is impressive.
