Default I refinished this unknown snare drum!

So I do t know a lot about this drum, other than it’s a 14x5 Asian mahogany snare. I’m assuming it’s a cheap no name snare, but some of the hardware is actually quite nice.

I found this laying in a corner at my school that I work at and asked my boss, what they were doing with it and he said take it, so I did!!

The lugs - I just really like the lugs, kind of a vintage, classy look in my opinion.
The Hoops - 2.3mm hoops, similar to the stick saver hoops with the curled edge, however these hoops curls all the way around, never seen hoops quite like this, but there strong and look good!

The snare needed a ton of restoration. There was no bearing edges, the wrap is aweful and needs to be removed, The shell needs some serious sanding and wood hardened. The lugs need a good cleaning a lubed and the hoops also need a good cleaning and the tension rods cleaned.

    So that’s what I did!

I removed the wrap, sanded the shell to baby butt smooth inside and out, cut the bearing edges, applied wood hardener inside and out and on the bearing edges,
Cleaned and polished all the chrome, placed some cotton under the springs in the lugs, lubed the lugs with white lithium grease,
Stained with a dark mahogany stain, then sanded down so that the grain really pops out and then applied 4 coats of hand rubbed satin lacquer.
New heads are Coated Ambassadors top and Ambassador hazy bottom
    20 strand puresound wires!

I have to tell you, I’m in love with the sound of this snare! It has a beautiful, full bodied, woody crack! It’s super sensitive and has a huge tuning range, although for my taste I cranked it up to a more medium high.

    Hope you enjoy the pics!

Looks awesome! Was the p85 throw off already on there? The lugs are very nice. At first glance I thought they were those cheap generic pearl lugs but they look a lot better than that. Never seen them before.

The lugs remind me of old Rogers lugs. They aren't Rogers but were likely meant to look like them.
