Question Can anyone identify this snare drum?

A Premier snare drum, but which series? What's it worth? ...?

    8 lugs, 14", and I assume 10" deep

    Thanks!

Snare drums of that depth are not common except for orchestral purposes.
It could be that it is one of the "quartet' reflected in the 1977 catalogue:

I also believe that badges after 1983 say "Premier Percussion" so I would think this drum is pre-83.

They do seem similar! However, the quartet snare is 12" deep, mine is 10". Just checked with a tape measure.

I dunno but I'm seriously liking the drum set behind it.

Natal Originals Maple Split Lacquer - one of the best drums I have ever played and heard. My Tama Starclassic is nothing compared to the Natal and the Natal is half the price... :-) Seriously check them out and give them a try if possible!

My first thought was a marching snare due to the depth. I’m a little skeptical now, since I would think marching snares would be 10 lug....but maybe not.
I’d say early to mid 1980’s. My XPK kit is around an ‘87 to ‘89. It has the exact same lugs, but the badges just say “England” instead of “made in England”. I suspect that’s because Yamaha bought them and not every Premier drum was technically MADE in England. That way they could use the same badges whether it was made in a Premier factory in England or a Yamaha factory. Thats 100% speculation on my part, but it would make sense.

I agree, looks like a marching snare. Premier was a popular brand for marching drums back in the 70’s and 80’s.

I didn't see any marching snare hardware and started trying to find out if they made anything that size that would be for the orchestra.

It's a deep Premier snare. Leave it at that and go have a beer.

Mine was given to me by a pipe band drummer. It had everything strpped off it. Basically the shell and a rim. I put a head on it and used it like a concert tom for a while. This was 70's. Badge said "made in England"

I would think you could identify it by looking up the serial number on the badge.

When I had my 1991 APK 5pc kit, the badge on the stainless steel snare looked like this: My guess is it's from the same era circa 1990's.

    Aren't marching snares 15" diameter?

I agree with RickTheDrummer - I'll bet it is simply a deep standard snare. They were popular with metal drummers of the time. My guess.

One thing sparked my curiosity now that I think about it. If it was intended as a marching snare(and the depth seems almost fitting as such), shouldn't there be fittings on the shell somewhere to attach straps so that it can be carried around the head? Without those strap-mounts it makes me think it was intended for play in a regular drumset.
