    Default Snare drum upgrade

I am a guitarist and play drums to support my guitar playing. Have been playing drums on and off for 10 years. I have a Yamaha Rydeen 5 piece drum kit and Istambul Mehmet Samatya 4 piece cymbal set in my studio. I would like to upgrade the snare drum to a metal shell snare drum. I record mostly rock, blues and pop. Is there any good snare drums on a budget so I would not have to spend as much as a Supraphonic or Black Beauty?

I was looking a the Yamaha recording custom (500 EUR) series but the price is very close to the Supraphonic (650EUR) and the Black Beauty (1000EUR) is even more expensive. Other alternatives is the black panther (400EUR) which is at the limit I would like to spend before I just give up and get a Ludwig. Second hand market here is next to non-existent. The Tama Sound lab (300EUR) seems to be a good priced, but how does it sound? Any other recommendations for a snare drum?

My immediate reaction is go find a used Acro in a pawn shop.
But I have a suspicion that option isn't available in Euro.

My country, which is a tiny island there is not used market. If I import, I have to pay for shipping which would make buying more worth. If no local shop has the gear and I import new stuff I get free postage from one of the stores.

I almost pulled the trigger on one of those today. I have some rebate credit at an on-line retailer (after spending $2500 on a new PA system). I can get a new PP Brass Patina 13x7 for about $100 out of pocket.

Sounds like Spaz personally owns more snare drums than there is in an entire nation. Maybe he should start his own country. USSR.....the United Spaz Snare Republic

Careful...you don’t want to get caught up in a cold-war Percussion-Arms race with any of the world’s super powers. That can be detrimental to your economy.

Zack, I'm not sure if you know Michael who has not been around for awhile has quite the collection of snares. If you can recall he had them posted on the floor and sofa at his home a few years ago. He is some kind of musical salesman.

Seems like I should look into importing a used Acrolite. Is the Black Galaxy Acrolite just as good as the regular Acrolite or does the coating ruin the drum?
