Default Tuesday could be interesting for me

I got a call from a friend earlier this evening who owns several storage units, and he had a guy storing some drums and cymbals in one that wasn't paid for. He told me there are two complete kits and two complete sets of cymbals. At this time I do not know what brand drums or cymbals they are, but he told me to come look at them and if I want them he only wants $300 for both sets. He said that is what is owed on the unit, and it has been more than six months and he "needs the stuff out of the way". I will be going by tomorrow to check them out to see what I can do!

Sounds like a clearance sale, somebody who doesn't know what they have, or something too good to be true. Worth a look, just be careful to take your time with the details. 300 for two sets is a fishy deal that isn't done very often, so i'd be curious to know what the catch is. Good luck with the hunt all the same, though.

The kits were owned by someone I know who had a drum lesson shop here in town. He had to leave town for his other job, shut his shop down, put the equipment in storage, and never made a payment on the unit after making the initial deposit to gain access. The unit has been cleaned out and the drums are at the storage unit owner's other business. I don't know which kits he left behind, but I'm sure interested in going to look.

UPDATE: I passed on them. It was two cheap, worn out SP kits. Kick drums are warped, toms have hoops missing, cymbals are trash. There is a reason the guy left them.

This is what I've found. I may go back and make an offer on then, but it wont be $300. I got a call earlier from a friend who owns several businesses/buildings, and they are offering me a spot to do drum lessons. They're cheap drums, but would be perfect for something like that.

Daaaang. Sweet craigslist tom angles too. Bout to say though like you could save the wrap - and if you ever buy undrilled shells of a higher quality but the same sizes, you already know where to drill your holes at cause it's marked.

Actually, the SP stuff is not that bad. I’ve looked at a ton of them used. I’d pay $150-$175 for all of it........if you have a use for it.

They do make some decent cymbal stands. Not the best but not the worst.

All the mini-boom arms coming off my rack are SP's! I like them better than Gibraltar's.DSC01672.jpg Except for the one Yamaha lol.

I have a Sound Percussion snare stand that I love. Double braced, ball swivel, extra-heavy feet and clamping arm pads. I use it instead of my Yamaha 7000 series and DW 9000 series stands. The SP stand is lighter than the DW and much easier to adjust. It's more stable than the Yamaha.

The hardware with these kits were bare bones, bottom of the barrel stuff. The beginner Mapex kit I bought my kids for Christmas has much better hardware coming with it.

DW, you could start collecting drums as single drums or complete sets. You could become a protege of Bish and Spaz whose pictures are in the dictionary next to the word collector.

What neither 1 of them realize is that: 1) Bish buys a 6 piece set, stores it, pulls it out a few monthe later and it's a 5 piece set because Mrs Bish sells off 1 of the drums when Bish isn't looking. 2) Ever notice that everytime Spaz gets a new or used snare drum, he says that he has 45 snare drums and counting. The reason it has stayed at 45 is because whenever he comes back with another snare to make his collection 46 snare drums, Cailyn takes 1 snare and sells it on the side. She knows that drummers can only count to 4, so once Spaz counts to 4 he has to resort to taking a guess as to how many snare drums he really has and 45 sounds like a nice number (I prefer 35-24-36 myself). While I have been on the forum, Spaz has bought about 5-6 snare drums and built a couple yet the cumulative total remains at 45 and will do so for a long time.

Offer him brand new crisp $100.00 bill for all of it. Tell him to hold out his hand, give him the hundy and start loading.

You can fix the tom angles and the finishes easily.

    The inside shells looked clean.

I have an SP cymbal stand... no problems with it at all.

Also bought some of their rock type "hickory" sticks... not very good,
they break super easy... good for theatrics I guess...

It's interesting that some people like seeing sticks break with pieces flying all over.. the SP sticks will deliver.
