I am seeing people on social media saying they are going to ignore the evacuation orders because they will be okay.

I was in the Army during Katrina and we were rescuing people off of roofs of two and three story houses. Many didnt get rescued and died.

I pray that those who have this attitude will reconsider and will evacuate as ordered. There is no sense in putting not only themselves in danger, but also first responders in danger who will have to help get people who stay if the hurricane and the storm surge do what they say it is going to do.

I respect everyone right to make their own decisions, but I've seen the devastation first hand of what happens when people disobey orders to evacuate, and it always concerns me deeply when people say they will be okay.

    Hurricanes are so unpredictable.

There is never a way to guarantee safety when one this powerful comes in.

Fortunately, the Carolinas are above sea-level.

If it was me, i'd stake out in a storm cellar or go hang in the sewer for awhile. I imagine it can't reach those places.

We got away with almost nothing from Florence. Some light rain, wind that, at best, might have reached 10MPH. We were very lucky.

Now the sun is out and the temp is about 75.

I'm in Virginia. We got the remnants yesterday. Tornadoes everywhere! Sirens going off. One guy killed when a tornado ripped through a warehouse facility. Also, flash flooding and trees down everywhere.

Russ: Storm cellar= drowned. Sewer, you would know that feeling of being flushed and swimming in a sewage treatment plant.

    A suggestion:

Exactly how far west are we talking Russ? If you keep going west you wind up in eastern Europe.
