Question Looking for list of drum grooves from simple to more complex

    Hello!

I've been playing bass for quite a while now, and now I'm tented by the drums :-) Hey, it can help me better understand the rhythm section.

    So...
I am used to the metronome, I can read drum notation, and I know how to count up to 4 :-) Am I good to go ?

Do you know where I can find a list of frequent grooves and their notation, starting with the easiest to more complex ones? Ideally a wide range of styles, too.

I would like to start working through the grooves one at a time, starting with the simple ones and gradually ramping up the complexity.

    Thank you!!!

Tommy Igoe groove essentials is a really great resource for this. Covers a variety of styles, speeds, and complexity. Also Survival Guide for the Modern Drummer by Jim Riley is a great book that covers the basics on most styles. Both bookes have plenty of play along tracks as well so you can practice the grooves within the context of the song.

I'll second Jim Riley's book. A lot of good stuff in it.

Also check out Advanced Funk Studies by Rick Latham. Great stuff in that book as well.
