Casino gigs. What can I expect? I'm playing my first time for five nights this week in Oklahoma. I've done all kinds of venues, but this one is new to me. What can I expect, and how should I approach this from a professional perspective?

Be well dressed, be professional, and get used to the idea that nobody pays much attention to the band.

Assuming this is with the band/people/venue you are not totally familiar with? I’d just be 100% certain to have my money in hand or know the full details of the contract/agreement in writing...especially if you have expenses incurred like fuel, food, lodging, etc..or are taking time off from a primary job to play the gig. It’s not a $100 gig at this point, it’s a business endeavor.

It sounds like while it's a different venue, it won't be too different from your current playing experiences. Just imagine you're at one of your other gigs during your time there, and you'll be a lot more comfortable and able to focus. Other than that, just look good and have a good time.

I wont be playing now. I was a last minute fill in and we only got two hours of rehearsal done. He called me back this evening and told me he decided to bring in a drummer from Nashville that he has worked with before to do the gig.

Cant say that I'm not disappointed, but I cant blame him at the same time.

Honestly, that sounds a little disrespectful of them to do that to you at the last minute. I understand their motivation, but by all rights, they should compensate you for the time & trouble you incurred. At the least, they owe you a huge “thank you”.
You may not have gotten to play, but your willingness to take on the responsibility will not go un-noticed. You may not realize it when it happens, but karma is on your side, my friend.

I just try to take it as it comes. I had my bags and gear packed, ready to leave out at 6am in the morning, but he called me around 2pm today and told me the news. It is what it is.

The thing that does hurt is I rearranged some other plans I had, etc. I did put out a message on my social media page to seek other gigs to play this week so I can at least try to recoup a little bit of money lost.

Right. It's frustrating, but I also believe that things happen for a reason, and that reason will eventually be revealed in time.

If I were to play an extended gig like that, I’d have to take vacation days off from work. If I did that....and they did what they did....well....I’d be a touch on the grumpy side, LOL.

Long ago, I ditched the idea of "grumpy". I go straight from"everything's cool" to "totally pi$$ed" in a nano second. It has served me well, I sleep better at night if I was in somebody's face that day.

That is the issue I do have with this. I made arrangements and changed my schedule up for the whole week. That does piss me off, but not much I can do about it.

Well, you have the free time now...you could always go to the casino anyway. The same casino. Sit at a table in front of the stage, drink beer and shout out requests for Freebird and Mustang Sally...every day, for 5 days.

HAHAHAHAHA! Dude, only if I had the funds available to do so!

On a side note I may have at least one gig this weekend to help recoup some time/money. Waiting to hear back from them as I type this. I just wanna work!
