    Default New Toy

I just received a new Roland SPD-SX. I've been checking it out for a while and with the recent price reduction bringing it down to equal the Yamaha DTX Multi-12, I pulled the trigger. It will be a huge upgrade over the Alessis I've been using. We've been incorporating more electronic music in one of my bands, and the limitations were starting to have an impact. With 9 pads plus 4 additional inputs for pads and 2 more for switches, it will really make a difference. I'm also looking forward to using my laptop to add wavs, being able to edit sounds within the unit and creating kit chains so I can easily switch kits in the order I need them. I will give a full review once I start using it.

I just picked mine up a couple of weeks ago also.
It's pretty awesome. I'm not doing anything special with it though.
Just a lot of the background sounds in the songs we play.
But I love the click features and I did by a trigger pad for it too.

I've used it on one gig so far and it worked flawlessly. Using the footswitch to move down the kit chain was awesome. I'm triggering my snare on some songs and I'm planning to expand the triggers to the toms. Eventually I'll create a kit for every song in the set, even songs that don't need extra sounds, and I want to incorporate the click as well. I found and downloaded a zip file of over 1000 sounds. PM me if you're interested, I can send it to you.

I love that you can set the click for each kit. We started practicing with the click now and it's been great.
Our first show is next Saturday. I'm super stoked to try it all out!
We are having troubles though getting all of the EQs and sounds right.
Did you have any issues with volumes matching or being too loud too soft?

Haven't had any issues with volume. A couple of quirky things happened at rehearsal last night though. When I first powered it up I was getting multiple triggers on each pad hit. I initially thought there was a delay effect on the channel the pad was connected to, but there wasn't. Then my friend(the studio co-owner) suggested powering the unit off and back on and the issue was gone. The other thing was I was getting no sound when hitting one of the smaller pads on the top of the unit. I know you're supposed to hit those pads with the shoulder of the stick rather than the tip, and maybe I missed the first few times. I got it on the 3rd or 4th try, but that's a bit concerning because in this case, the sound starts the song (girl laughing at the beginning of Hungry Like the Wolf)
