Why do there have to be so many different snare drums out there? Lol

I'm going to be in the market for a new snare and in my research, came across this bad boy. Does anyone here have any experience with this snare? If so, what were your thoughts?

I have played them a couple times in stores, and really liked the drum. I didn’t have a chance to mess with the tuning all that much, but from the videos I have seen, I think you can get a pretty wide range out of it too.

Fit and finish is really nice on them as well.

I also heard that if you buy one, Mr. Greb will come to your house and play a solo for your birthday party.

It's a snare drum that will sound like any other snare drum except you will pay more for it because it's a "Signature" model.

As for the tuning range. With due respects to bongos, I can get a pretty wide tuning range out of my Supralite (probably the cheapest Ludwig snare) and I can get a wide range out of my Black Beauty Super Sensitive, probably Ludwig's most expensive snare, and all the 1's in between, from my Acrolite to my Black Magic. You just have to play around with them.

I understand the benefit of a wide tuning range, but honestly, once I have a snare adjusted to the sound and feel I like, I leave it alone. The head is such a big part of it that finding the right head is my biggest concern.

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham

There is definitely a point of diminishing returns with drums. I pulled out all my snare drums recently, and played them side by side. And yes, they all sound like snare drums. There are some subtle differences in the collection, but not enough to warrant the 11 that I have.

I think that the reason that I still look for more is that it is something that I like to collect. Some have cars, some have guns, and some collect stamps.

I think quite a few of us have more drums than we would ever need, but it’s what makes me happy.

I agree with Rick, but if it makes you happy, sir, go for it!

I my youth, I used to collect blondes. The other stuff was way cheaper.
