    Default After Many Years.......................

................I found a 1964 Slingerland catalog and looked up one of my old snare drums.
The catalog reflected three student model (6 lugs) snare drums from that year -- my drum was the so-called DELUXE student model.
    The price ? .............. $64.

I got this snare in 1978 or so................from a pile of trash left in the front yard of a house next door when the residents moved away.
It is a 3-ply maple (with re-rings) Slingy dated June, 1964..............it had a white lacquer finish.............the throw, hardware and chrome were all still great.
The heads and the snare wires were broken.
I replaced the heads and wires and hand-sanded the lacquer down to the natural maple finish.
A few years later, I painted the shell flat black.................I played a lot of gigs with this old drum..............nothing special, just a trusty snare.

Around 2012, I refinished it with a traditional silver sparkle wrap....................looks and sounds just fine.
Today, it is used as an emergency back-up snare at all my gigs.

I don’t see too many 6 lug snares. Nice to see it’s still holding up!

I'm surprised that it is so well-made....................very solid.
I thought it was funny priced at $64 in '64.
They offered two cheaper student snares that year at $49 and $54.

I bought my 1st Black Beauty Super Sensitive in '67 before I hit the flip. If memory serves, I paid $120.00 for it brand new. Now you could by a fairly decent drum set for what a BB SS would cost today.
