Default I'm back.... with a new kit

Hey fellas. I've been away from the forums for a while. Due to a divorce, I had to move out of the house about 9 months ago, into an apartment. Now before you go saying "Sorry to hear it", trust me, it's a much better situation now, but thanks anyway. However, being in a 1 bedroom apartment is far from the ideal situation for a drummer! Just before moving into the apartment, I traded my Mapex Meridian kit for an electronic kit, and played that for a little while, but I just couldn't get into the e-kit. So I posted that up for sale as well. Through that sale ad, I met an amazing woman, who is also a drummer. She and I have been dating for a few months now. Being that my lease is going to be up in a couple months, and I'm going to be moving out and renting a house, I've been looking at getting another drum kit. My girlfriend is just as excited to see me start drumming again soon. She's so excited that she just bought me a kit! We found a smoking deal on a 3 piece Gretsch Renown Maple kit. 10, 16 and 22 in Piano Black lacquer finish. It's a beautiful set! Now, I'm basically starting over. I have no cymbals, no hardware, etc. Just the 3 piece set. But it's a hell of a start!!

Welcome back! Glad to hear things are getting back on track for you. Of all the situations to meet someone, that’s not one I ever would have suspected...but that’s always how it seems to work. Best of luck in 2019!

I completely missed the dog in the last pic. He blends right in with the floor and the drums, LOL.

Hey man it’s great to have you back here! Glad to hear things are going good now. I just recently went through some heavy BS too. Things really do get better. Beautiful kit btw. Here’s to 2019!

Congratulations and welcome to the Gretsch family.
Renowns are so close to USA shells, nobody knows the difference; and for the price you paid.............wow !
Six-ply maple and gum with the cast hoops -- great drums.
Your drums are similar to mine -- I've had these USA shells for 41 years and they keep getting better with age..............

Thanks Ricardo! That's a beautiful kit!

I read that the only difference between the Renowns and the USA's are that the Renowns are 7 ply, all maple. There's no gum ply in there. But they use the same hardware as the USA's. And they are made in Taiwan.

Thanks guys! Yeah, we just couldn't pass up this deal! We were originally looking at a Catalina set, for 300, but when we saw the Renowns, with a K ride, for 500, we had to jump on it!

Congrats on the good deal and the nice drums. Gibraltar hardware is what I would look into if I was into your situation. May those drums give you years of musical joy. Peace and goodwill.
