We bought our house in June of last year.
Now that my little girl is up and running and we have a second on the way.. I've decided it's time to build a music room and a tool shop so I can keep all of my stuff safe from the girls. (and wife.... hahahaha)
So we all know my basement setup currently...
well went out and bought a bunch of tools
Made a lot of trips to Home Depot
Nice work Zack! Keep the pics(or video) coming! Love to see the progress!

Very cool room Zack. Good luck with the build.
YES! I love this kind of thread. Keep updating please.
What skills! Wow! Thanks for sharing.
I just love it when we go to "Mr Zack's Neighborhood". "Today, boys and girls, we are going to build............................................. .................something.
Believe it or not, I can do some boiler installations ( the old Oakmonts) where you had to tighten the sections together, that was, of course, after you got each section down into the basement. When the little W-McC's came out, that pretty much put a end to Oakmonts.
I did do some plumbing (my uncle was a heating contractor and plumber, I worked for him after "I was asked to leave school") I can't pipe a house but can do some basic plumbing.
Carpentry! My grandfather was a master craftsman back in the day (he came here in 1908) when carpentry was a art, not the "let's nail it together and hope it holds the wall up" generation of carpenters. I have a sawzall, a mitre saw ( cut some 2x4's on it and it's been sitting ever since) and a drill, which I use a lot and a couple of hand sanders that I've never used.
I could do 30%-40% of what you are doing, but it would take me 5X as long because I would have to go back and fix mistakes I would have made earlier. Harper would be starting college by the time I finished.
You are doing a excellent job Zack. Now go get your a$$ in gear and finish this so I can see what happens next in "Mr Zach's Neighborhood".

I'm learning stuff...this is great. Thanks!
Thanks guys! Yeah I'm kind of stuck until my electrician and I come to a full agreement.
I can do a lot of things on my own but this I want done correctly and professionally.
He has quoted me $1900 to redo my entire basement. It's honestly a lot of work ahead of him.
He needs to add a subpanel for this room and the tool room.
Install and add over 30 outlets, pull out all of the wiring and light and redo the lighting and more.
This last week I made one of the hardest adult decisions ever.. and I sold my racecar to fund this project.
My family and kids safety come first and I don't want them playing in the tool or messing with all of dad's drums and equipment.
So as soon as I receive payment for car I'll get electrical started. Then I can insulate and start dry walling.
Hopefully you won't miss your car too much Zach... i have a weekend warrior (non racecar) sitting in my garage and hate the thought of having to sell it for something. Especially with summer on the way.
Nice build!

Todd Sucherman's drum room. I wonder if the snare buzz bugs him at all? Prolly uses the "Zack Anti-Snare Buzz Felt Strips" right?

Oh my god !
I love doing home improvement stuff like that....except for mudding drywall.
I’ve been told that the secret to building a sound-proof room is to not attach the inside and outside sheets of drywall directly to opposite sides of the same stud. You use 2x6 footer and header and 2x4 studs. You stagger the studs so only every other one is flush with the same side. That way, sound (vibration) can not travel directly from one side, through the stud, and directly to the other. Not sure if it’s true, but seems to make sense from a physics standpoint. I did find a pic of the concept

"Too many crappy used drum stuff to list"
Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!
"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham
He must get a lot of snare buzz when he plays in there

Well done. Z. I'm sure it'll be better than imagined when completed. Thanks for the postings and progress! You're drums are stunning, BTW!

Great job. Looking forward to the build updates and pics of the finished project.
So here's some updated.
My electrician came over and started wiring up the drum room.
I would do it myself but my house it just a wiring nightmare.
So I hired him to redo literally almost everything.
He's adding a subpanel for the basement, removing all the current wiring in the basement, swapping all the breakers, and rewiring the panel and labeling everything.
So here you can see the wire ready to go to the panel once subpanel is mounted and installed
You can see the wiring going across the music room. We also added 12 outlets
added the can LED lights to the ceilings. Made some changes so need to redo some of them
And here's how the room sits at the moment... a disaster zone
Thanks for the update. Things are coming along...
