I have a Gretsch 42-strand snare wire set on my USA bronze (original equipment snare wires)..................one wire (either number 1 or number 42) has come off one of the end-frame pieces...............what is the best way to remove the wire from the other frame piece in order not to later realize a punctured snare-side reso head ???

Bend the broken wire back as far as it can go, then snip with some wire cutters. Take what left on the snare frame and use a dremel tool or a file and smooth out the broken wire where its been soldered.

FYI-Some drummers recommend removing snare wires in pairs to avoid more buzzing than "normal".

I did exactly what he said.

I use wire cutters and cut as close as I can.
Then I use a file or dremel to smooth it.

Aquarian makes a snare side reso that is designed to prevent the snare wire frame from digging into the reso head. I have used this on my Gretsch USA snare.

Well -- how smart is that ?
I'm still rockin' the snare side that was shipped with the snare drum from the facility in SC.

It has blown my mind every time I've broken one.
One time I broke one playing live and had no tools.. wire ended up going through the snare head.
This is why I ALWAYS take two snares to every show.

Me too..............I'm using an old 64 maple Slingy as a backup..............I also take an extra bass pedal.
We had a gig last Saturday and as I pulled my primary snare out of the case, it had one strand hanging.............I asked everybody in the band for tools but we didn't have the right one.
I let it dangle below the snare side reso all day.
