Default Grombal cymbal protector & Slicknuts.

So I found these little cymbal inserts on ebay, and ordered some.
They looked like a good idea...
Basically, it is a small rubber gromet that inserts into the hole of your cymbals, and stays there. Its designed to provide protection from "keyholing" of your expensive brass.

Although there are millions of different ways to mount your cymbals... and provide this same type of protection... I wanted something that stayed with the cymbal, in the event that I am playing a "house kit" and bring my own cymbals.

In addition, there was some interest in the question of how they would work with Vater "slick nuts"...
The answer to that question is... Beautifully.
Im really happy with the combonation of the Grombals and slicknuts.
The two together provide ample protection as well as easy install and removal of cymbals from stands.

They can be found at... Drum Bum - The Grombal, Cymbal Mount / Protector

Very cool Matt! I'm going to have to get some of these. I have been using the Slicknuts for a while now and I swear by them. It seems like every time I pull my cymbals off the stands, that little sleeve that protects them from the threads comes with it and falls on the floor. Won't happen anymore. I'm ordering a couple bags!

    Thanks for the info!

Vegas, how have the Grombels affected the sustain of the cymbal, and the general overtones of the cymbal. Have you noticed any difference at all? Just curious.

PB, it actually seems as if they have more sustain. Could be my imagination... but it does seem that way.

ive been meaning to get slicknuts for all of my booms. a couple of em are new pearl booms with thier quick release nuts, but i still have to deal with 6 oldskool wingnuts every setup and teardown. i definatly need to look into the grombals, my 22"paragon (heavy beast) has gotten just the slightest bit keyholed from transport in the cymbal vault.

Thanks! Sounds like we all need to be protecting our cymbals with these! Seems like it would be a small investment to protect a big investment!

    Completely agreed, my friend.

I cherish my Paistes. (Even though I like to beat them LOL)
Anything that I can do that will help lengthen their life, and is cost effective in the process, is something I want to do.

based on VD69's review I checked these out too, and they're working fine for me. I've got one ride cymbal they won't fit, but overall they're cool.

It definitely is a nice place Xush. We pride ourselves in offering each other whatever knowledge we can (the more experienced ones have more to give tham I do), and keeping in mind that we are an intenational group with differing opinions. Therefore, we try very hard to respect one another.

I was gonna say, they have them at auto parts stores for around $3 for a bag.I think it was 15 per bag.Vater sent me a few of those awhile ago and this thread just reminded me that I have them *somewhere*...should have played harmonica, be hard to lose track of a harmonica. In ya pocket and go.

I just got two bags of the Grombals and can't wait to try them. My motivation beyond wanting to protect my cymbals from keyholing was that I wanted to find a way to mount the cymbals without "choking" the sound everytime I played them, as tightening them down with nuts and felt pads does. I am hoping the Grombals will address both the keyholing item and the sustaining of sound item at the same time.

Any comments on how if at all the Grombals effect the sound/sustain of the cymbal? (I saw this question earlier on in this thread but haven't seen an answer yet)......
