    Hey,

I'm just wondering how you guys approach this situation - if you're super tired while practicing, finding it difficult to concentrate and generally just playing terribly as a result, what do you do?

Currently experiencing this and not sure whether to just stop, take a breather, and pick up where I left off in my next practice session, or power through.

Keeping going could potentially cause more harm than good if I'm using poor form and technique?

Or am I just making excuses?

Would love to hear some opinions!

If I'm tired, I play through it.

If I'm SUPER tired, I go upstairs, pour some scotch, turn on the TV, and promptly fall asleep.

There is nothing to be gained by playing if 1 is that tired. You make dumb mistakes that you wouldn't normally make, maybe stroll into some bad technique, and, at the very least, gain nothing.

Obviously you need to get better rest.

Just stop and go back to it later.

What you're describing is worse when it happens in a band situation especially at a show when you're tired of playing the same 10 songs for the last 5 years and the tempo napoleon turns and forces you to watch him because God forbid the songs are played with feeling

That! kind of stuff looks amateur, is embarrassing and takes all the fun out of it.

Walk away and come back to it when you're ready.
