So I had this custom made for me by MANIC drums over in Ljubljana Europe.
Shouldn't be to much longer before it's finished and shipped to the US.

    That drum looks amazing!
Looks like a quick release mechanism.

I was guessing it was a quick rim release, but man it looks like it could be a real chore tuning it. Or are the tensioners accessible somehow we can't see. Allen wrench? Are the rims special too? I know......... stay tuned.

Fascinating looking stuff going on with this company . I came across this video on MANIC's website which demonstrates the lugs in combination with their own hoop - quick tuning on the fly as well as very quick head changes:

Yup... I'm also working on a deal for a full drumset but might be a little bit as the pricing is well.. not cheap. But how awesome is that tuning ability?!

You can quickly change anything and everything on the fly. . . And fine tune through the quick release with a regular drum key.

Indeed! I think the visual aesthetic of the lugs may split opinion but I like the industrial look of them and think the ability to quickly re-retune/re-head a drum in seconds is very enticing.

I can see the std tuning rods now in the pic BFD supplied and how the system works. Pretty neat in a way. My only worry would be how they hold up over time and use with all those moving parts, hinge points, pins and plates etc. It seems as though the tension should hold everything tight and hopefully avoid rattles.

AMAZING!!!! After years of R&D, they have managed to come up with drums that sound just like the drums of old at probably 5X to 10X the price.

The other "trick" stuff is about as necessary as................................................ .............................(pick your analogy).

My 'Stang has a digital readout that will tell me my tires air pressure to my 0-60 times and a sensor that will automatically roll up my windows if the guy in the car in front of me farts.

When they come up with drums that when hit, sound like Jennifer Lawrence whispering sweet nothings in my ear, tell them to give me a call.

You see no value in being able to switch heads in about 27 seconds... all tuned and ready to play? I don't need one but it's a cool idea.

What happens if you switch to a different companies head?

You tune it. With the lugs. Like any other drum. Then you'd benefit from the ability of being able to modify tuning on the fly and change heads quickly if required. It's really not that difficult.

My only fear would be getting things caught on the flip levers. I had a hard time with my old DW snare with the mag release strainer because of that. You’ll just have to be extra careful when handling and packing it.
