    Default Shelly Manne

Shelly Manne, was most known for his West Coast jazz and was also known for his versatility in his ability to play any style of music including Dixieland, swing, bebop, avant-garde jazz and fusion, as well as contributing to the musical background of hundreds of Hollywood films and television programs including "Peter Gunn". He had his own group called "Shelly Mann and His Men" and his own club called "Shelly Manne's Hole" in Hollywood. But, he was not a showy drummer and not big on drums solos preferring to let his drumming show itself in his backing of the musicians he played with, but he could play some very musical solos.

He, Andre Previn, and and Leroy Vinegar made many albums together alternating the leader's name of Shelly Manne or Andre Previn (piano). For example, his albums were titled "Shelly Manne and Friends" (My Fair Lady, Lil' Abner, Bells are Ringing, etc.). Andre Previn's albums are entitled "Andre Previn and His Pals" (Pal Joey, West Side Story, GiGi, etc.)
