Philly Joe Jones is famous for playing with Miles Davis' first "Great" quintet simply called " the Miles Davis Quintet" (the second great quintet featured Tony Williams). The list of people he played with would make a "Who's Who" of jazz so, I'm not going to list them. But if you think of anyone, he most likely played and recorded with them. He also had his own groups. He's in that Max Roach, Art Blakey group of drummers and a definite influence on me. He is the quintessential example of taste, chops (not being to much or to little), and mastery of the drums.

Here he is playing "Salt Peanuts".
