    Default Olatunji

Olatunji (Babatunde Olatunji) was born in Africa in Nigeria. He came to America in 1950 and started making albums in 1959 starting with his famous album "Drums of Passion". He, along with Art Blakey, brought African music to America. He played with John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Quincy Jones, Pee Wee Ellis, Stevie Wonder, Randy Weston, Max Roach, Abbey Lincoln, Carlos Santana, and others. (Yes, jazz, soul, R&B, rock n' roll come from the blues which comes from African people, but that is not "African" music per se. This is African music and drumming.

Love African drumming and rhythms! It's hypnotic. I could listen to it all day.
