I couldn't help but be distracted by the keyboardist. Looks like he needs a bathroom break.

He was the all-time reigning champion of that hand slap game back in Jr. High. And....he can open a jar of Vlasic pickles without warming it up under the faucet first. Having incredible wrist strength opens up a world of possibilities.

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham

I do wonder if a "world of possibilities" might include a Playboy, an outhouse, and a possible membership in the Vienna Boys Choir.

Buddy could play faster than that and also play a solo.

Not 1 thing of interest in that "solo".

The two fastest people I have ever seen were Bruce Lee (they had to speed up the camera so you could actually see his hands move due to the fact his movements were between the frames) and Buddy Rich.

I've seen Buddy a few times. He had two speeds when he played fast: fast and very fast. One time I saw him do a solo and "holy moses!", it was just a blur. You couldn't see his hands moving. Buddy usually had two effects on drummers (that is the ones who were good enough to understand what they were seeing) and that was to make they either quite drumming or try harder. I was in the second category.

But, after that solo, all I was able to do was make my way to the bar during the break (this was at "Lenny's on the Turnpike" in Boston) and just tell the bartender "give me a beer". I mean, that's all I could say. The bartender asked what kind of beer I wanted and I replied "give me a beer". I couldn't even talk. That's it. He gave up aking me what I wanted and just gave me something, I don't remember what it was.

After I finished that he came back and asked if I wanted something more. I murmured "give me a beer". Well, that went on until the next set, and then I hustled over to watch more amazing impossible feats on the drums. There is no doubt in my mind. Buddy was and still is "the greatest drummer who ever drew breath" (from the joke Loui Bellson told on the Buddy Rich memorial concert video 1).
