Mickey Roker started as a big big-band drummer. He later played with all kinds of groups. Dizzy Gillespie said of him: "once he sets a groove, whatever it is, you can go to Paris and come back and it's right there. You never have to worry about it."

Some of the people he playe with and recorded albums with are Nat Adderley, Gene Ammons, Roy Ayers, Randy Brecker, Ray Brown, Ray Bryant, Jon Faddis, Art Farmer, Frank Foster, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Gigi Gryce, Herbie Hancock, Gene Harris, Bobby Hutcherson, Milt Jackson, Willis Jackson, Hank Jones, Sam Jones, Irene Kral, Mike Longo, Junior Mance, Herbie Mann, Blue Mitchell, Modern Jazz Quartet, Lee Morgan, Joe Pass, Duke Pearson, Billie Poole, Sonny Rollins, Horace Silver, Buddy Terry, Stanley Turrentine, McCoy Tyner, Harold Vick, Mary Lou Williams, Cedar Walton, Joe Williams, Reuben Wilson, Phil Woods, The N.Y.
