    Default Connie Kay

Connie Kay is another legend in the jazz world. He most known for playing with the Modern Jazz Quarter (MJQ) and recorded over 40 albums with them. The MJQ is a legend unto itself and was started in 1952 with Kenny Clarke as the drummer. Connie Kay took over in 1955 and played with them until the group disbanded in 1974.

He also played with and made albums with Cannonball Adderley, Chet Baker, Ruth Brown, Miles Davis, Paul Desmond, Bill Evans, Bob Brookmeyer, Dexter Gordon, Wardell Gray, Coleman Hawkins, Jimmy Heath, Jackson, John Lewis, Jay McShann, James Moody, Joe Newman, Sonny Rollins, Michel Sardaby, Lucky Thompson, Bobby Timmons , Randy Weston, and others.

He was a very tasteful drummer who played with finesse and played the right thing at the right time to compliment the music.

This is Connie playing "Bag's Groove" with MJQ from "The Last Concert".
