Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson were unusual in that they both played in the Allman Brothers Band at the same time. The reason for this is that Duane Allman wanted two drummers because James Brown had two drummers.

You could call the Allman Brothers a sort of Southern Blues/Rock band which sometimes mixed in jazz and coutry music. They occasionally played long jams (ala Cream - Duane admired Eric Clapton and Cream and later played slide guitar on the double album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" with Derek and the Dominos).
