Denzil Best (Denzil DaCosta Beat) was a major bebop drummer. He played and recorded with jazz legends such as Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins (1944?45), Illinois Jacquet (1946) and Chubby Jackson. He was especially famous for his brush work and was considered
He was a founding member with George Shearing in 1948 of the George Shearin Quartet and remained there until 1952.
Others he played and recorded with are Lennie Tristano, Lee Konitz, Error Garner, Sheila Jordan, Phineas Newborn, Jr., Seldon Powell, Nina Samone, Billy Holiday, Tyree Green and others.
