Philip Wilson was an American drummer was a founding memeber of the "Art Ensemble of Chicago" and also played with the "Paul Butterfield Blues Band" from 1967-1970 (after Sam Lay left). He was alos a session drummer for Stax records and with Jimi Hendrix at the Cafe Au Go Go and Generation Club in 1968.

He made four albums as leader and played and recorded with Hamiet Bluiett, Lester Bowie (six albums), Anthony Braxton, Julius Hemphill, Sam Lazar, Frank Lowe, Roscoe Mitchell, David Murray, and others.
