Default 16x16 floor tom / snare drum

Because I have an extra floor tom, I decided to try to make it a snare drum. What I have so far. Ground out a snare bed too. Waiting on heads also.

Wrapped this with a textured vinyl alligator skin. Made a butt plate from a couple pieces of aluminum. I needed something flat and close to drum because a floor tom leg ends up above it.
The rims I have for this were pretty rusty even after clean up so I decided to paint them black and set aside until I get heads.
Bought a set of 16” snare wires for this too.
Before buying the 16” snare wires, I wondered if 14” snare wires may have worked? Has anyone ever tried that?

Wow not even I have a 16" snare lol I do own a 15" snare but it's not 15" deep! lol

I wonder how this will sound... what snare wires are you going with?
With my 14x12 I found that the super wide 42 wire with a wider bed worked best.

I’ve bought a set of Gibraltar 16” snare wires. In my post, I was asking if anyone has ever tried a set of 14” wires on a 16”. I do have a set of 42 strand but they’re 14 inchers. I may try those to see how they sound vs. the 16”.

No. I was going to finish it with something else but waiting for the 16” snare side head which is special order.

Everyone loves FREE... like this free drum forum. But like your car and even your drums, they require upkeep and maintenance and that requires money.

I know from working with Drum Bum through the years, that this forum is costly to run. It requires server fees, hosting, ongoing moderation, advertising, software upgrades, security certificates and IT work when it breaks. All in addition to the expenses that come from running a business. These costs are offset (hopefully) by members that click through to Drum Bum to make a purchase now and then, if not make a contribution to help keep it running.

Added a small cymbal boom arm to mount in the bass drum tom holder for the ride cymbal.
