    Default Matt Frenette

Matt Frenette is a Canadian drummer who has been playing with the Canadian band "Lover Boy" since 1987. The band has had the usual problems, but he is still hanging in there doing a great job.

Matt was influenced by many kinds of music including soul and R&B (Otis Redding, The Temptations, The Chambers Brothers, etc., jazz-fusion (Chick Corea, Billy Cobham, etc., and rock (Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk, Chicago, Santana, etc.). His drum influence's are many, but Ginger Baker, Billy Cobham, Don Brewer, Mitch Mitchell, Keith Moon, Bobby Colomby, Danny Seraphine, and many other stand out. He especially liked Ginger Baker and Don Brewer.

Matt also played in marching bands where in learned rudiments, stick control, discipline, dynamics, press rolls, and both grips of the sticks. Even though Lover Boy's drumming is not the kind you would hear with say Jimi Hendrix, it is not because Matt can't play that type of drumming. He can. It is because the music Lover Boy plays doesn't call for that kind of drumming. (You have to play to the music, not to your desire)

This is Matt playing "Working for the Weekend" with Lover Boy.
