    Default Ed Shaughnessy

    Ed Shaughnessy (Edwin Thomas Shaughnessy - 1929-2013) was born in New Jersey, New Jersey and was a jazz drummer. He is famous for being the drummer for Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" band (for 30 years) led by Doc Severinson. So, you could see him play every night.

    In the 1940s he played with such legends as George Shearing, Jack Teagarden, and Charlie Ventura. In the 1950s he played with Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. In the 1960s he playe for Count Basie and then went on to play on the Tonight Show.

    He also played and recorded with Trigger Alpert, Gene Ammons, Count Basie, Bob Brookmeyer, Gary Burton, Teddy Charles, Jimmy Forrest, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Giuffre, Honi Gordon, Johnny Hodges, Etta Jones, Quincy Jones, Hubert Laws, Mundell Lowe (seven albums), Oliver Nelson, Joe Newman, Lalo Schifrin, Shirley Scott, Ed Summerlin, Clark Terry, Chuck Wayne, Jimmy Smith, Charlie Mingus, and others.
