Jeffrey (Jeff) Lawrence Williams was born in 1950 in Mount Vernon, Ohio and is a jazz drummer, composer, and educator. He began playing the drums at the age of seven and is self-taught. He played professionally from his mid-teens. From 1968 he studied arranging and composition at the Berklee School of Music.

He played in New York in 1971 with Marc Copland and later with Lee Konitz in 1972 and later Stan Getz. In 1973 in played with Dave Liebman and Richie Beirach. After that he went on to play and record with many musicians.

He released five albums under his own name and recorded with Richard Beirach, Paul Bley, Ethan Iverson, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman, Nikki Iles, Richard Sussman Quintet, Duane Eubanks, Dave Scott, Ryan Blotnick, Steve Shapiro, John O'Gallagher, Jason Miles, Russ Lossing, Armen Donelian, Gilles Peterson, Ari Ambrose, David Eyges, Toberta Piket, Jeff Williams, Armen Donelia, and others.
