Default George Russell - New York, NY

"New York, N.Y." was written by George Russell (American jazz pianist, composer, arranger and theorist) and was released in 1959. George Russell was one of the most forward-thinking composers and arrangers on the jazz scene during the 1950s. This album is a little ahead of it's time and is a masterpiece.

Jon Hendricks (from "Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross) does the "vocals". There are many legendary musicians contributing to this awesome album including John Coltrane (tenor sax), Art Farmer (trumpet), Bob Brookmeyer (trombone), Benny Golson (tenor sax), Bill Evans (piano), Max Roach (drums), Charlie Persip (drums), Don Lamond (drums), Barry Galbraith (guitar), Doc Severinsen (trumpet) and more.

This is "Manhattan" (Charlie Persip on drum). Coltrane is doing the impovising.
