There are no rules except if it sounds good to you use it. I have two 17" crashes , two 16" crashes , and four 18" china cymbals so having more than one of the same size is fine if it works for you.

Is it uncommon to have two 18” medium crashes and a 20” ride?
Is having 2 of the same crash common? Its a 24” bass, a rack, and 2 floor toms.

Here is one of my kits.. It has matching 18" crashes
