You are not alone. Gaffers tape it is.
I tend to be a tape snob and won't use anything but Gaffers. Am I the only one?

I ran out forever ago and keep forgetting to buy more but gaffers tape is the way of a real musician.
Yeah, it's more expensive but I'll tell you, once you use gaffers and then go back to regular duct tape, it's like going from a Zildjian K Custom to a Camber. No comparison!
Have never used tape at all, is it any different than moongel or adding a control rings?

I’ve never tried the gaff tape. Won’t use duct tape cause it’s way too sticky gooey. I use blue or green painters tape.
Yeah, it's quicker. Gaffers tears easily as it has a thicker cloth weave built in. Through the years, I've used it for drum dampening, holding set lists or cheat notes, temporary fixes like taping a floor tom leg on where a screw stripped, marking the stage when needed for drum positioning, etc. It just works for so many things.
I use it for taping chords down securely and then it won't hurt my rug or anything else.
I use the real thing.
