Default Transporting Cymbals in a soft case.

    Hey people,

I've never had decent cymbals so it never really phased me, but I've just picked up some semi-decent cymbals and want to take care of them.

When putting them in their soft case to take to gigs, do you need to put anything between the cymbals, or can you just place them all happily together?

    Thankyou!

    Steve

I've never used anything between them and have been carrying them around that way for years. The cymbals are just fine.

It's good to have a soft covering fr them, but they don't necessarily need to have something between them. The edges are all you really have to worry about since there aren't any abrasive areas on the surface of a cymbal that would scratch one behind it.

Mine are all polished Zildjian A Customs. I try to protect the polish by trasporting them in a soft case that has individual fleese dividers in it so none of my cymbals come in contact with one another. If they are standard A's or unpolished from what ever company, I don't think it would hurt them to be against each other. As long as they are not allowed to rub to much up and down to cause scrape marks, I would think you would be fine.

With all due respect to our fearless leader...
I would never let me cymbals rub together unprotected.
The appearance of my pies is as important to me as their sound.
I dont want to scratch them, or have logos come off. Thia severely effects resale value...

I use a soft case, and I slip the cymbals into the plastic sleeves that my ZBT cymbals came in when I got the cymbal pack. I'm kind of a fanatic that way. it just prevents the rubbing, and make me sleep better at night! LOL

Considering I'm willing to beat the heck out of them with 2B's, I guess it'll be OK to just throw them in the soft case

    Hehe, 2Bs. Madness I say!

I use a Deluxe Protection Racket Cymbal Case which has handy fleece dividers and for the piece of mind it gives me its not expensive.

I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to keeping the Brilliant finish on my A Customs as well as the logos. The decision to use a proper cases or not depends on how much you value the look of your cymbals. Cymbals rubbing against each other a bit won't damage the sound.

I put a piece of felt in between all my cymbals when they are in the case and hold them together with a hihat clutch so they can't move around. I like my cymbals to have a brilliant shine to them, so no scratches allowed!

I'm with Drummer, rack'm, stack'm and pack'm right into the case. I always stack them largest to smallest (diameter) in the case. Heck, you're beating on the surface with sticks!

Break out your wallet and go buy the SKB 24" Vault Case with wheels and retractable handle. The spindle is sleeved, and it includes cushioned spacers for between the cymbals to prevent rubbing. If you are going to have nice pies, you now have nice pies, and you intend on having nice pies, do this. 100.00 isnt much. My 24" vault case has a thousand dollars worth of cymbals inside. Hats, two crashes, ride. Why would I put that much money in a bag? No way. For what I paid for them, why would I want them scratched up ? Aint happening. Its bad enough you take the risk of a crack every time you play. But ....... really some things are avoidable. Bag damage, NO Bag Damage, scuffs, edge nicks, accidental drops....... you dont need to worry with.
