for me I always use the snare side 300 but I found the PDP snare wires are kinda weak. Swap them with some puresounds.
For heads, I'm a heavy hitter so I prefer the Evans HD Dry and cranked :P
Kinda personal preference for snares though

After many, many years of faffing around with snares, I just now use a Coated Ambassador (or any one ply alternative) over a 300 Snare Side. This combination 'just works'
