    Default Band Horror Stories

Not sure if I've posted something like this before but last night's gig got me thinking about some of the crazy things we encounter on gigs. The keyboard player was hitting wrong notes all over the place! I'm not talking small misses here. I'm talking huge, full chord mistakes in prominent choruses of the song. I'm not sure if he was high or what but damn, it was embarrassing. And these were songs we've been playing for a long time and he knows them.

    Wait, there's more, lol...

This dude's time is so horrible that when the guitar player kicked of the tune and was strumming the beginning, this keyboard player put his hands in the air to get the audience clapping and he wasn't even in time!!

    Ugh!! Somebody shoot me now!

I'm always amazed that some musicians have no tempo whatsoever....until the drummer gives it to them.

Yeah, his tempo seems fine during the main part of the songs but he'll rush if I don't hold him back. But how in the hell do you clap at a different tempo from what the guitar player sets up? That defies my understanding!

    How about this ???
The song starts with an awesome rhythm guitar riff....
....and the guitarist brings it in at the wrong tempo.

Rick, would you care to elaborate on WTF? I always thought it meant "Where's The Females", but I do have a feeling that it means something else. Just curious!!!!!

Yeah my current band has some issues like that. We do TNT and the lead singer cannot seem to get the count down during the break just before the chorus starts so I have to count it in for him with 3 as loud as possible hits on semi opened hats. I started with 6 hits but apparently counting that high was wayyyy too confusing so I have it down to 3 for him but he does not always hear the 1st hit and it can be embarrasing sometimes when we are out of sync on it.

The lead guitar starts kryptonite and when I come in with the snare parts he loses his place and has a hard time counting it, so now I do bass drum hits on the 1 and 3 so he knows where we are. LOL

Tom, MDK, it's time to move on. You do not want to be associated with people that aren't sure of exactly what they are doing.

Nah, it's hard to find people you get along with and play music. We are not recording albums and none of us are even close to being professional musicians or making a living doing this. My last band had guys who would make last minute excuses and not show up for practice, or not practice on their own and show up having to learn the song. Now those are excuses to move on.
